What is Aura Photography?
Aura photography is the concept of having your aura taken through a film camera with the use of biofeedback sensors. You may have also seen it on Instagram and TikTok of all these colorful portraits and imagine what the colors mean. In some ways, it is like a mood ring.
Color of Our Energy states "Our human aura is an energetic mirror of our physical, emotional, mental, astral and spiritual selves."
Colors aren't permanent, as we all go through different transitional periods throughout our life.
My experience
My sister booked our appointments as a sisters' date a couple weeks back, as we haven't had too much time to bond with each other lately. We went to a studio in downtown Seattle, called Create Within for our aura photography session with Color of Our Energy . Each appointment is about 45 minutes; mine was at 1:45 PM and my sister's was at 2:30 PM. After checking in, local Seattle photographer, Alex Lee, explained us the process of capturing the auras with the vintage camera. Once the film was developed he sat us down and explained more about the "self-guided" session. Self-guided means that after our photo was taken, we are provided with a list of aura colors and a description of how it is interpreted. We were also provided with a link that goes more in depth of the aura color meanings. The link is provided for each session, and their website states that it will expire within a month.
The Process
Stepping into a dark igloo-like compartment, Alex explained what we needed to do before taking the photo. Inside the "igloo" was very dark besides for a couple of soft box lights. He explained that for the camera to take a photo of our auras, we had to place our hands on the boxed-hand sensors and then covered a dark cloth above my hands. The sensors gathers the electromagnetic data which then transforms into colors on film. With just a couple of flashes, my photo was taken! The process of taking the photo was really quick, a couple minutes at most.
Once we finished, he goes over both our photos and connects it with the colors meanings, as well as leaving room for us to talk amongst each other and ask questions.

Interpretation of My Aura Colors
Unlike my sister's photos, I didn't have much color various besides the blend of purples and blues. Reading the colors and the meaning of their placement on the photo helped open my eyes more on my inner thoughts and how to navigate them. As of the last couple of months, I've been on a journey on improving and exploring different digital art mediums and styles. After coming back from Hawaii, I felt more inspired on creating content to build my portfolio, as I'm also job searching.
In this transitional period, along with the current economic economy as businesses have been laying off their employees, it's been very difficult to find a sustainable job that allows me to navigate and grow skills into my future career path as an art/creative director. I've learned to not be picky with job titles, as I adapt very easily to all my previous job environments, but I'm definitely about to hit my quarter mid-life crisis.
Violet resonated with me because I am feeling more creative after being rejuvenated from my birthday vacation! I've set time off for graphic designing and even creating reels on Instagram, and occasionally opening up my travel folders to work on that Hawaii vlog I have been mentioning lately.
Blue and indigo made sense to me, as I've known as a child I was an empath. The blue above my head signifies that I express my emotions and thoughts through my art, as I've been working to conceptualize certain ideas and bring them to life. The current project I'm working on is 24 Things I Learned at 24. And lastly, indigo represented that I'm in a transitional phase of my life.
Final Thoughts
Overall, it was a great experience and it was even more enjoyable because I did it with my sister! Having a physical piece that was able to capture my energy at that moment feels... magical. I'm sure there's better words to describe it, but everything after that moment just feels refreshing. In some ways, I feel an extra push and more motivated to work towards my goal! Maybe it's also the lingering magic of setting intentions for the new year.
Until next time,
